Terms of Service

ReadTube is a small project operated by Nimit Bhargava, an individual based in India (“we”, “us”). By using readtube.cc or the ReadTube browser extension (together, the “Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What ReadTube does

ReadTube takes a YouTube link you provide and presents the video’s publicly available captions as readable text, alongside the YouTube player. We do not host the underlying video or audio; YouTube does. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, or any creator whose content you choose to view through the Service.

2. No account, anonymous use

ReadTube does not require an account, a name, or an email. You are responsible for the device and browser you use to access the Service.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service to violate any law, or the rights of any creator, rights holder, or other person;
  • attempt to access the Service in ways not permitted by its public interface, including scraping at volume, probing for vulnerabilities, or interfering with other users;
  • redistribute transcripts or captions in ways that would infringe the underlying creator’s rights, or use the Service to build a competing product without permission;
  • circumvent any rate limit, access control, or technical measure built into the Service.

4. Content and intellectual property

Captions and transcripts shown on ReadTube are derived from the video creator’s own captions (or YouTube’s auto-generated captions) and remain the property of the applicable rights holders. ReadTube does not claim ownership of that content. The ReadTube name, design, and code are the property of the operator.

If you are a rights holder and believe content on the Service infringes your rights, write to us at hello@readtube.cc with a description of the work, the URL on ReadTube, and your contact details. We will respond promptly.

5. YouTube’s role

The Service uses YouTube’s public oEmbed endpoint, thumbnails, and embedded player. When the YouTube player or preview loads inside ReadTube, your use of that player is also governed by YouTube’s Terms of Service and Google’s Privacy Policy.

6. The Chrome extension

The ReadTube browser extension adds a “Read in ReadTube” button to YouTube watch pages and, when you click it, sends the page’s caption data to ReadTube so we can render the transcript. Use of the extension is optional and you can uninstall it at any time. See the Privacy Policy for what the extension transmits.

7. As-is, no warranty

The Service is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. Captions may be inaccurate, machine- generated, or missing. Videos may be unavailable, age- restricted, region-locked, or removed by YouTube or their uploader at any time, and ReadTube cannot guarantee access. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service without notice.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, goodwill, or opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us to use it, which for the free Service is zero.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have breached these Terms or are putting the Service at risk. You can stop using the Service at any time; uninstalling the extension and clearing your browser’s storage for readtube.cc removes the data we keep on your device.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Effective” date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent change. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising from or relating to the Service or these Terms is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Bengaluru, India.
